A Barred Owl is also called the laughing owl because of its many vocalizations.  It’s usual call sounds something like “Who cooks for you?  Who cooks for you all?”  This owl can also sound like a howling hound dog, which has fooled many a Racoon hunter in the swamps of Louisiana.
