First Steps

What an experience to photograph #Africa ‘s varied and immense #wildlife population in the #ngorongorocrater (a #worldheritage #site and the world’s largest intact and inactive #caldera) and to document the first nudges of encouragement from a mother Grant’s #gazelle (Nanger granti) to her newborn fawn. The patch of dried grass was the fawn’s birthing bed. After a thorough licking and cleaning by Mom, the little one was up and walking, however unsteadily. Plant eaters, like the gazelle, must learn to stand, move, and hide quickly or risk being prey for numerous predators.
